unable to  activate stand by
I am having difficulty starting my PC. Upon activation it abruptly shuts down and needs to be restarted 3 times each morning. I want to be able to put in stand by mode through the periods the PC is unused.

Hi Tia Benish1. Is this the first time you are trying to activate standby mode?2. Which version of service pack is installed on the computer?Step 1:First we will try to disable automatic restart so that we get the complete error. To disable automatic restart on system failure, boot into advanced startup options and select ‘Disable automatic restart on system failure’ and hit enter.http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/russel_02may13.mspx Step 2:If the computer is running outdated device driver files, they may not support power management and they may cause incompatibility problems. This behavior prevents a computer from entering or resuming from hibernation and standby. Drivers are the primary causes of hibernation and standby issues.I suggest you to update the drivers for your display adapter from the manufacturer website and then check for the issue. How to troubleshoot hibernation and standby issues in Windows XP?http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907477Step 3:Also make sure your computer up to date. How to keep your Windows computer up-to-date?http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311047Step 4:If the issue still persists, you may check for the faulty module that could be causing the issue. How to view and manage event logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP?http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427Regards, Manasa P – Microsoft Support
